Topic: URGENT!! The website address you have specified could not be found:

I had 2 sites added to my account previously. Everything worked great, could edit, had client permissions, etc... When logging in today, Simple CMS said the sites did not exist. So I have been attempting to add them again but I keep getting this message:

The website address you have specified could not be found: http://www.fpwebdesigns.com/index.html - please try again.

&

The website address you have specified could not be found: http://www.fpwebdesigns.com/CherryCreek/index.html - please try again.

My ftp login info hasn't changed and both index files DO exist --

http://www.fpwebdesigns.com/CherryCreek/index.html

Also -- I just checked filezilla to see if it could connect to my ftp and it works fine.

I need this working ASAP as I am finishing a client site and have to have it set up for them to edit.

Hi James, the error message will typically appear when the system has been unable to connect to your FTP server or download the page. I've just checked your account and I can't see any associated sites, would you be able to email one of your site's details to us and we'll investigate it for you.

I just tried to add a completely new clients site and the same issue happens too. The fpwebdesigns.com site and the one I just tried are hosted on Bluehost.

I was able to add another client site just fine but it is hosted on godaddy. Could this be an issue with bluehost?

We do have certain issues with particular hosts and sometimes there's no rational reason. Because of the nature of being able to plug in SimpleCMS to most sites, it's difficult to cater for everything for example how a site is built structurally, in which language, which browser the client is using and as you've found out, even the web host. This is why we have to approach each thing on its own merit.

We actually host SimpleCMS on Godaddy dedicated servers, so we know for sure the system works fine with them.

When I first signed up for SimpleCMS I was able to add fpwebdesigns.com with no problems. It was working just fine for these sites.

I've been trying everything and it does seem like SimpleCMS is not connecting to my ftp servers. Yet I am connecting just fine with programs like filezilla.

I need to get this figured out ASAP. Any ideas?

Hi James, I have just taken a look at your account with the details you emailed to us last week. There appears to be a problem connecting to your website. The system is unable to download the homepage of your site which is preventing the site from being added to your account. I tried to ping the domain from the server and it timed out, I am wondering if your web hosts has blocked our IPs, have you checked this already? If not, can you please get our IPs added to your whitelist?

I have also tried connecting with FileZilla, the first attempt failed but when it automatically retried it then worked.

I contacted Bluehost and they looked up your IP's to see if they are blocked for any reason and they are not. They indicated that there seems to be nothing on their end that should be blocking the ftp connection. They suggested that maybe SimpleCMS is blocking their IP's. Something is definitely going on here because I can not get through when trying to add a any of my clients hosted on bluehost.

I just added a client hosted on Network Solutions and no problems at all.

Could your other client host with Netsol? At least we know that would solve the problem :)

Ok then... problem solved. Ditched Bluehost for Hostpapa. Works fine now. You might want to put Bluehost on a list of companies that doesn't work with SimpleCMS, so other Bluehosters can avoid this headache!

Thanks, I've created a list of known hosts which don't work with SimpleCMS as per your suggestion. There are only 2 on there, but it's as start :)
