Topic: Unable to edit content

I've set up everything and can see the site I'm trying to edit, however once I've selected an area to edit and saved I can't seem to edit the content. Clicking on the edit content button results in a blank page.

Am I missing something? I'm using SHTML on my pages, would that have something to do with it?

Help me Obiwan.

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi Ben, I've just checked your account and I was able to edit a bit of text. I undone the changes straight away.

Are you still having problems?

Re: Unable to edit content

I am new user and I've set up 2 sites using Rapidweaver Templates. The first site is simple and works fine but the second site with 3 level nav's isn't working. After selecting an area to edit, then save, the edit content button gives me nothing, no tools to edit content. The whole reason of using this CMS is for this site that I will be building for a user in Norway. He must be able to edit his text. My main domain is: http://annaschanedesigns.com/ and the subdomain: http://kpro.annaschanedesigns.com/  Can you give me some idea what the problem is?

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi Anna, I've replied to your email. Everything's setup correctly on your account now.

Hi Tobias, I've emailed you.

Re: Unable to edit content

Simon, thanks so much for solving the problem. Now I am able to continue my work and test with my customer in Norway.

Re: Unable to edit content

Hello,

I am having a similiar problem at lebwcoonline.webconnection.com. Some content is editable, some not. On the homepage there are working editable regions, but other areas (the address information in the header, the 'whats new' section on the right) are not working.

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi Mark, I've just checked your site and I can see you're using SHTML with include files. We currently only support PHP include files. This is why the elements in the header aren't editable as they are inside the included file.

Unfortunately, there's no quick fix for this. You can put the contents of your header into every page so they no longer use includes. Or you can convert your site to PHP and use PHP includes. Or hold out a little longer and we will integrate this feature into the system. I imagine we can have this feature ready within the next month.

I'm liking this Star Wars sub-context that seems to be going on!

Let's do Withnail and I and I'll join in :)

Re: Unable to edit content

I'm having a similar problem with a website I've inherited: www.scotherbs.co.uk - I can set up the regions, but then it won't let me actually do any editing. I've put screen video on youtube of the problem: http://youtu.be/ifaklfH-jLA.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi Jamie, I've replied to your email about this. It looks like the files on your FTP server haven't got any read/write permissions set on them.

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi,
Like many others despite having defined (just one!) edit area - a simple table containing text my editors, one of whom is my alter ego, cannot then edit it. the flags (or icons or whatever) simply do not appear and clicking on the text provokes nothing but frustration!
Please help, its a school website, and the text box is for one of senior team to be able to post news of school closures due to snow  - and its snowing now!!
Thanks.

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi Bryan, each case above is different - this isn't the same problem for everyone. There are many things that may affect whether your site is editable in SimpleCMS so it requires a bit of investigation on our part if you are having problems.

I have checked your FTP details and they are working but I'm not sure that they are linked to the site you have added to your account. I downloaded /httpdocs/index.html and added a comment tag <!-- test --> to the top of the file. When I refreshed your site's URL and viewed the HTML source the comment tag wasn't there.

I have also uploaded a new page "testing.html" and tried to view that on your site but it was displaying a 404.

Could you double check / update your FTP settings.

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi Simon, Thanks for your response. I checked the FTP settings and all seemed correct. I then went back to do an edit, and was pleased to see the editing tools now present which they weren't before. However when I did an edit although it appreared to do it, it quickly reverted to the original edit.
I then went back to the FTP settings and reimput the password (which was the only thing I couldn't visually check before). When I then tried an edit it worked this time.
I can't understand how and if the password was incorrect, or maybe it was our servers extremely slow to update the original edit, but things do appear to work now.
Thank you
Bryan

Hi Michael, I have replied to your email on this.

Re: Unable to edit content

Is the user not able to change the font size of the text?

Re: Unable to edit content

Hi Allen, they can if you allow them to. You need to enable the toolbar option for them, go to:
Users > Permissions > Rich text options
