Topic: Some frequently asked questions...

This isn't so much of a tutorial as a reassurance and a little more information about the company behind the product. We get emailed with any number of these questions on an almost daily basis so here are some of the most common:

Q/ Who is behind SimpleCMS?
A/ Redmode Ltd. are a UK limited company which has been trading both online and traditionally for over 12 years. We incorporated in 2001 and our business has been online since 21 May 1999 as you can see by the whois output for redmode.com. Our payment facility is provided securely by Sagepay, the world's third-largest supplier of enterprise resource planning software and online payment systems. You're in safe hands.

Q/ What happens if your service goes down temporarily?
A/ Your client will not be able to edit their website during this time. The beauty of our system is that the website will remain online throughout, as the system FTPs into your website to make the desired changes. So your client's site will remain online and we will be hard at work getting our service back up again. This happened once before and we were back up within the hour due to the alert system we employ.

Q/ How secure are my clients' FTP details?
A/ We offer you the option of using our SSL secure connection throughout the whole process, from start to finish. The padlock icon is next to the URL bar, just click that to switch it on. It goes without saying that we would never share anything with anyone and only 2 members of our team have access to these details (and we own the company so you're in good hands!) so we've done our best to ensure that your details are as secure as they can be.

Q/ What if you just up and leave?
A/ We have no plans at all to do this; we have literally tens of thousands of users and as you can imagine, being an internet-based product, our overheads are relatively low compared to Mary's Flowers on the high street for example. We have our own dedicated servers and a small team looking after you, our customers. We have no intention of ending the service we offer. We have been operating SimpleCMS for 4 years now and we're going to be around for years to come.

Q/ Will you ever contact my customers?
A/ Not a chance. You are our customer and this would be a serious breach of trust as far as we're concerned. They are your customers and we understand that many of our users sell our system as their own - we would never want to ruin that. Besides which, we know what design clients are like!

Q/ Why don't you offer telephone support?
A/ We used to, it was called the 'Business' account and for that we charged $70 /month. As we no longer offer this account, we can't justify spending time having telephone conversations without being paid enough to do so. Whilst we are an online business,  the humans behind this are certainly not living online and in this 'offline' life we have to pay our mortgages and feed our children :)

Q/ Do you offer a downloadable version of SimpleCMS?
A/ Good question. It's coming - under a new name, Editsite.com - watch this space and follow @SimpleCMS if you're not doing already.

I think that's it for now, I will probably add more as and when, so if you ask a question below related to things like this I'll answer it here.
